Welcome

Initiated and sponsored by Life and Independence For Today (LIFT), VisitAbility In Pennsylvania (VIP) is one of many organizations joined in an international movement for dynamic, user-friendly housing designed for everyone. Begun in Atlanta, GA by Eleanor Smith of Concrete Change as an attempt to overcome difficulties that traditional homes pose for people with disabilities, the changes required were soon recognized by many as good common-sense methods of increasing the safety and value of their homes. These standards are good design with minimal expense and maximum potential return. They are low-premium insurance against many possible discomforts that occur when aging parents cannot visit a home, when a temporary injury requires a wheelchair, walker or crutches, when the furniture movers arrive. The features that make a home visitable also make it better.

  1. At least one No-Step Entrance

  2. A barrier-free path of travel, including doorways, of at least 32” clear to common areas

  3. A usable entry level bathroom
